Houston Texans reportedly trade Mark Ingram for New Orleans Saints

Houston Texans trade veteran running back Marc Ingram to the New Orleans Saints, aaccording to a report by Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Details of the trade were not yet available at the time of this report, but Pelissero said that it was to involve late future choices once the deal was finalized.

Sending Ingram to the Saints reunites him with the team he started his career with. Ingram was the 28th overall pick by the Saints out of Alabama in the 2011 NFL Draft. With New Orleans in his first stint, Ingram spent eight years as a member of the franchise. In those eight years, Ingram rushed for 6,007 yards and 50 touchdowns, including a 2017 season when he rushed for a career-high 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns. Following the 2018 season, Ingram signed a three-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

In Baltimore, Ingram was only a member of the franchise for two seasons. His freshman year he rushed for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns, but then followed that up with 299 yards and two touchdowns in 2020, a season where he split time with multiple running backs. Ingram was waived by Baltimore in January 2021, then signed a one-year contract with the Texans in March 2021.

In seven games this season, Ingram has carried the ball 92 times for 294 yards and a touchdown. He had a season-high 85 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“He’s one of those guys you’ll never see fall. He will never let anyone else down,” the Texans head coach said. David Culley said in mid-September, according to the team’s official website. “Basically, I’m with him all the time telling him to keep doing this. As I said when we first got him, I felt like he reflected who I was as a coach and what I wanted from our players. I’m glad he’s here.

Saints are looking for extra depth behind star running back Alvin Kamara. In six games, Kamara has 419 yards and a touchdown, but quarterbacks James Winston and Taysom Hill are the second and third runners in the lead. Jones Jr. is the second running back this year for New Orleans with just 77 yards on 19 carries.
