The Virginia Beer Co. joins the State Trade Mission to the UK

WILLIAMSBURG, VirginiaThe Virginia Beer Company will join the Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s international trade mission to the UK in May.

“Exporting has been at the heart of our brewery since day one,” notes Virginia Beer Co. co-founder Chris Smith. “We have a passion to be part of the growing world of craft beer, not just in Virginia or the United States, but around the world. In 2021, the brewery was accepted into Virginia’s VALET program [Virginia Leaders in Export Trade] and we are ready to take VBC overseas again.

As part of the state’s upcoming UK trade mission, Virginia Beer Co. will join other Virginia-based companies (such as Catoctin Creek Distilling Company) looking to start or expand distribution and promote products made/brewed in Virginia in the UK. .

“We really enjoyed our experiences in the UK market,” notes VBC co-founder Robby Willey. “We have served beer at most past Great British Beer Festival, Craft Beer Rising and BrewLDN events since 2017. And we have seen our beer featured across the UK through recurring partnerships with Beer52. [a distribution service making beers available for home delivery anywhere in the UK].”

Beers from the Virginia Beer Company were featured in Beer52’s Virginia-themed collection (along with Virginia brews), and the brewery’s Evil Santa Spiced Milk Stout was included in Beer52’s recent Advent collections. . In 2020, Virginia Beer Co. was named Beer52’s “US Champion” brewery based on consumer reception for the brewery’s beers.

“One of the purposes of this trip is to reconnect with past and future export partners,” says Chris S. “We were able to ship beer during the pandemic…but since we weren’t able to visit any global market for over two years, the goal is also to reconnect with craft beer drinkers, showcase the purpose that is at the heart of our brewery, and once again share beers and cheers in person.

The brewery will be in London from May 1 to May 9. In addition to meetings with distributors, VBC will team up with London craft beer bar The Rake (located in Borough Market) for a tap takeover on May 4. Proceeds from the sale of VBC’s beers that night will be donated to the UK Disaster Relief Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The Virginia Beer Co. will then join the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services [VDACS] along with other Virginia breweries representing the “Virginia Is For Craft Beer Lovers” showcase at BrewLDN, an annual London-based craft beer festival that hosts breweries from around the world on May 6-7.

The Virginia Beer Co. is also a member of the Brewers Association’s Export Development Program, participating in tastings and exhibits around the world. The brewery currently exports kegs, cans and limited bottles to the UK, Netherlands, France, Japan and South Korea.
